Fantasy Football Week 11 Free Agent Pickups

In fantasy football, you’re always looking for players who went under the radar in your fantasy draft and are now getting lots of fantasy points.  Being in a twelve-man league, it’s very hard to find players that can get you consistent points that are not already on a team.  This is a list of possible free agents in your fantasy leagues that could help your team.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ running back – Denard Robinson

Jacksonville Jaguars new starting running back, Denard Robinson

Jacksonville Jaguars new starting running back, Denard Robinson

Denard Robinson was a star quarterback at Michigan for the 2010-2012 seasons.  He was known for his incredible speed (4.35 second, forty yard dash) and quickness, as well as his ability to make defenders miss tackles.  He broke the single season FBS record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in 2010 as a sophomore.  Robinson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft to the Jaguars listed as a wide receiver.  He told NFL scouts that he is open to playing any position because he didn’t believe he could make it at the professional level as a quarterback.  The Jaguars saw a player with so much raw talent that they could mold him into any type of player they wanted.  They tried their luck putting him at running back.  In the 2013 season, he was promoted to the number two spot on the running back depth chart behind Toby Gerhart.  In 2013 he got only twenty carries for sixty-six yards.  Robinson got his first start in week seven of the 2014 regular season against the Cleveland Browns in place of an injured Toby Gerhart.  He rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on twenty-two carries, earning him an impressive, eighteen fantasy points.  He has proven he is no joke by scoring four touchdowns in his last four games as well as averaging ninety-seven yards per game.  He has averaged fifteen and a half fantasy points per contest in these last four games.  If Denard Robinson has not been claimed in your league, you should pick him up before someone else does.

Steelers’ wide receiver- Martavis Bryant

Martavis Bryant

Martavis Bryant

Martavis Bryant was one of the most overlooked players in the NFL Draft.  The reason for this is that he played alongside star wide receiver Sammy Watkins at Clemson.  During his collegiate career, he totaled sixty-one receptions for 1,354 yards and thirteen touchdowns.  Standing at six foot, four inches tall and running a 4.4 second forty yard dash, Bryant has a beautiful combination of both size and speed.  He was drafted to the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.  He was inactive for the first seven weeks of the season.  Upon activation, however he wasted no time in making a statement.  Bryant has scored six touchdowns and totaled 310 receiving yards in his first four starts.  He is constantly overlooked because he has the best Wide out in the NFL, Antonio Brown, on the opposite side of him.  This, however, is actually giving him more opportunities to score.  Teams are going to put their best cornerback on Brown.  Therefore, giving Bryant better one-on- one match ups.  He has averaged sixteen and a half fantasy points in his four active NFL games.  Ben Roethlisberger is having a great year and if this guy is available, he could very well be your new starting receiver for the rest of the year.

New York Giants’ wide receiver – Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr.

Odell Beckham Jr.

I’m sure you’ve heard of this guy if you watch Sports Center, or for a matter of fact, any sports show at all.  The number twelve overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of LSU has been nothing shy of incredible for the Giants.  He was held out for all of preseason due to a hamstring injury.  He also missed the first four games with the same injury. With a struggling Giants receiving core, “OBJ” as the players like to call him, is now providing a consistent tool in this new west coast offensive system.  His fantasy numbers have been good, averaging just about eleven points a game, for the games he has participated in.  He has proven he can go against the league’s best defensive backs as he put on a clinic against the Seahawks’ defense with seven catches for 108 yards.  Whoops, I forgot to mention that he was manned up against the self-proclaimed, “best corner in the league”, Richard Sherman.  OBJ is going to be heavily targeted now, which will undoubtedly bring him more receptions and more fantasy points.

Cleveland Browns’ wide receiver – Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon

Gordon is yet to play a single snap of football for the Cleveland Browns this season due to multiple Marijuana possession charges in the off-season.  He was originally supposed to be out for the entirety of the season, but that was later changed to a ten game suspension.  He is now set to return in week twelve.  Last year, Gordon led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,646 despite not playing in two games.  The Browns have been surprisingly good this year without him. (6-3) Now opposing defenses will have one more big problem to deal with.  This pick up could potentially land you a twenty points per game receiver.  Or, it could blow up in your face, and he may hardly be the player he was last year.  However, when you have a chance to pick up someone who lead the NFL in receiving yards, you do it.   Drop that third string receiver on your bench and pick up someone who will help your team. Hopefully at this point in the season, you’re not scrambling for a quarterback.  Though, if some unforeseen circumstance has come about, here is someone who can fill that void.

Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback – Mark Sanchez

Mark Sanchez

Mark Sanchez

The Eagles starting quarterback, Nick Foles, is going to be out for at least five more weeks and now its Sanchez’s turn to shine.  The former Jets player is absolutely capable of starting in the NFL.  A fast pace offense and a good receiving core can be great for fantasy quarterbacks.  Sanchez has weapons around him including Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, Lesean McCoy and Darren Sproles.  Yes, I realize two of those players are running backs, but Chip Kelly loves to call running back screens.  The running game has struggled for the Eagles this year and it will allow for more passing opportunities.  A major downside to this pick up is his tendency to throw interceptions on deep passes.  However, in an offense that doesn’t throw downfield too often, is not worrying me all that much.  Hopefully, this pickup will just be for a bye week filler position.  If you are planning for a quarterback for the long haul, I would suggest making a trade for a consistent starting quarterback.
