Welcome Back Mark

The second year Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback, Nick Foles, is reportedly out for six weeks due to a broken collarbone on his non- throwing side.  The injury occurred after a hard hit to his back by Texan’s defensive end Whitney Mercilus. Mark Sanchez came in the game looking decent.  He threw for 202 yards with fifteen completions on twenty-two attempts.  His stats also included two touchdowns and two interceptions.  The former Jets quarterback looked calm and in control.  Despite the loss of their star quarterback, the Eagles’ season is anything but over.  Mark Sanchez is a good quarterback whom I believe let the media get in his head and affect his game on the field.  This is a guy who lead a team with minimal talent around him to back-to-back AFC championship games in 2009 and 2010.

With a nice set of receivers around him including Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin, and a strong running game consisting of Lesean McCoy and Darren Sproles, Sanchez could return to his prime form.  He needs to work on two things.  Number one, not throwing dangerous deep passes in press coverage which leads to turnovers. Number two, not allowing the media’s opinion to get in his head.  Also he should work on not running into the back of his offensive linemen and fumbling.  Just saying.

The Eagles made the right call in playing Mark Sanchez over third string QB Matt Barkley, who has next to no NFL experience.  The Eagles are too talented and well coached of a team to have this be a major setback in their playoff hunt.  Besides, if all things go as scheduled, Nick Foles will be back for the end of the regular season and the playoffs.
