Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao Recap

The two most dominant fighters of this boxing era, Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, finally fought after five years of hype building up to it.  Some were calling it “The greatest boxing match ever”.  I call it the biggest letdown of a televised sporting event I’ve ever watched.  The undefeated 47-0 Mayweather beat Pacquiao by unanimous decision.  I wasn’t upset that nobody was knocked out.  I was upset with the lack of intensity put on display.  When there is so much build up towards a fight as well as it being most expensive pay-per-view in boxing history, I want to see haymakers being thrown.  Mayweather went on the attack for the majority of the twelve rounds.  However, the defensive strategy and quickness by Mayweather allowed for a higher percentage of punches landed, therefore giving him a higher score.  Pacquiao clearly was exploiting Mayweather’s hatred of being backed up in the corners.  Pacquiao landed some significant shots that stunned Mayweather.  However, whenever Mayweather was in trouble he wrapped up his opponent and waited for the official to separate them.  Mayweather had no interest in squaring up Pacquiao and trading significant strikes.  Mayweather won because the judges all gave him rounds that were very questionable.
Now that the fight is over, there is even more speculation going on.  Pacquiao tore his rotator cuff two weeks before the fight, but didn’t disclose his injury to the public.  He fought with his injury because he wanted to a chance at the featherweight title so badly.  He is now being sued for five million dollars for not disclosing his injury.  There have also been talks of a rematch with a healthy Pacquiao.  When Mayweather didn’t know about his injury, he said he would be open to a rematch.  Now that the news of his shoulder injury has come to light, Mayweather has called Manny a sore loser and claims he’s just not on the same level he is.  Mayweather will not give him another rematch now.  It seems suspicious that Mayweather changed his mind so fast after hearing that Pacquiao had a severely injured shoulder.  Mayweather made approximately 180 million dollars for this one fight alone.  This is far and away the most money any boxer has ever made in one fight.  Mayweather wants to retire after one more fight in September.  If he really wants to prove he’s the best fighter ever, he needs to give a healthy Pacquiao a rematch.  Of course he won’t do this because he knows that he has the best chance to end his undefeated streak.
