Every spring, NFL owners, GMs, coaches, and team executives all gather together to select the best college players who have declared for the NFL draft. Pandemonium is the norm for these men and women during this three day event. The players sit by their phone waiting anxiously to get a phone call from a general manager informing them that they’ll be a member of that team just minutes before their name gets called. These players go through intense workouts, drills, and interviews to increase their draft stock. Here are some of my favorite players who we’ll see in the NFL this year.
Vic Beasley:
Beasley is a 6’3” 250 pound outside linebacker with great speed and agility. He’s projected to be a late first or early second round pick. He put on a show at the NFL Combine by running a 4.51 second forty yard dash and benching 225 pounds thirty-five times. He was named as a consensus All-American in 2013 and 2014. He has absolutely dominated the ACC during his time at Clemson. The thing that makes Beasley unique is his explosion off the ball. Once the ball is snapped, he is running at full force. This is what makes him the best pass rushing linebacker in the draft. He is a perfect fit for a 3-4 defensive scheme. His agility allows him to also make tackles in open space which lots of pass rushing linebackers have trouble with. He’s got the size and the skills to be a valuable asset to any team. However, multiple sources say he needs to work on his intensity and leadership skills. If a team selects him in the late first round or early second round, it would be a steal.
Brandon Scherff:
This offensive tackle out of Iowa is a projected top ten pick. The reason being, he is 319 pounds yet can move like a guard. He is the best pass protector in the draft and is an exceptional run blocker as well. The reason he is so sought after is because he can play all offensive line spots except for center. He’s great on both sides. He’s got speed, strength, great vision, impeccable technique, and can block outside of the box. I see him going number nine overall to the Giants.
Dorial Green-Beckham:
Most people have never heard of this guy, and there’s a good reason. He didn’t play in the 2014 season. The wide receiver was kicked of Missouri’s team after multiple arrests and suspensions. However, he was the number one prospect out of highschool in his class and lead Missouri in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns in 2013. The reason I like this guy is because of his play making ability. He’s 6’5” and 237 pounds giving him a huge size advantage of most cornerbacks. His route running needs improvement but he can make plays that others simply can’t. He has good speed, soft hands, and has a huge catch radius. He’s projected to go in the second round but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him drop to the third round. He’s certainly not a safe pick due to his off the field issues, but if he cleans up his act he can be a great NFL receiver.
