Best Names March Edition

God Shammgod

There are some crazy, outrageous, and shocking names out there but I think this one takes the cake.  God Shammgod played college basketball at Providence College.  During his time with the Friars, he was nominated to the Big East All-Rookie Team.  He also set the Big East freshman assist record, which has now been surpassed.  In 1997, Shammgod was drafted in the second round to the Washington Wizards.  He appeared in only twenty games before deciding to leave the team and play overseas in the Chinese Basketball League.  Since his departure, he has played all over the world in countries like Poland, Croatia, China, Saudi Arabia, and even semi professional teams in the U.S.  His basketball abilities may not have brought him glamor and fame, but he’s still a champion when it comes to best names.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson

Ferguson is a player that many football fans have heard of before.  Ferguson is a top notch offensive linemen for the New York Jets.  He was drafted to the Jets in 2006 out of the University of Virginia as the fourth overall pick in the draft.  During his time in New York, he has made the Pro Bowl three times.  He is considered to be one of the most agile offensive tackles in professional football.  However, he may be most famous for being the offensive lineman that Mark Sanchez collided with in the famous “butt fumble” play.

Sonny Sixkiller

Sports_Illustrated

Sonny Sixkiller was a highly talented quarterback in the early 1960’s/1970’s  After an incredible high school career, he went on to play at the University of Washington in 1969.  At Washington the coach decided to give him the number six because of his name.  Sixkiller started his sophomore season and ended the year with an impressive total of 2305 yards and fifteen touchdowns.  He started for three years and ended up with 5496 yards and thirty-five touchdowns.  After his collegiate career came to an end he looked to play at the professional level.  He wasn’t drafted to an NFL team and ended up playing for the Pittsburgh Bell in the World Football League.  he bounced around from team to team but never found a team that would stick with him.  Now, Sixkiller works as a sports broadcaster.
