The Cleveland Cavaliers have far and away the most talented basketball team in the NBA. Kevin Love, LeBron James, and Kyrie Irving are considered the new ‘big three’ in the NBA. Now they have also acquired J.R Smith and Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks in a three way trade in which the Cavaliers parted ways with Dion Waiters. Teams should fear playing these guys with the amount of talent they have. However, their record shows otherwise. The Cavaliers have a mediocre 19-16 record at this point of the season. Some argue that this was expected because the team needs to figure out the roles of each player. If you think about it, it really shouldn’t matter what role each person plays on the team because with their skills combined, very few teams should be able to compete with them. This brings up the discussion about head coach David Blatt. His job could very well be in jeopardy already in his first year with the Cavs. The Cavaliers players and reporters have come out and proclaimed that Blatt is losing this locker room. The Cavaliers players have been constantly hurt and missing games. This is still no excuse for losing. Blatt needs to do something to gain back the respect of his players. The best way to do that is to lead them to victory. When your team loses to one of the, if not the, worst team in the NBA (the 76ers) you’re going to lose the confidence of your players. Maybe they need to play through Kevin Love who has been absolutely dominate lately while LeBron James is ailing a knee and back injury. Or maybe they need to give Irving the ball and let him create opportunities. They need an identity. Blatt has top tier players that are not being put to their full use and if he can’t find a way to win, someone else will.
