Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo has been a key to their success since 2007. With the aid of stars Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, the Celtics won the NBA championship in 2008 against the LA Lakers with Rondo at point guard. His resumé is off the charts:
1x NBA Champion
4x NBA All-Star
4X NBA All Defensive Team
1x All-NBA
Multiple Franchise and League Records
The point is, Rajon Rondo has been a consistently great player for the Celtics for many years. Ever since Allen, Garnet, and Pierce left, he has been the only positive force on this team. He’s put the weight of the team on his shoulders and struggled to lead this team of mediocre talent to a playoff run. Newly named head coach, Brad Stevens, plan was to start rebuilding by receiving high draft picks over the span of a couple years. He wanted to rebuild around Rondo, but Rondo has consistently made it clear that he wants out of Boston. It was only a matter of time before he was going to leave. Stevens looked for the best deal possible. It is now reported that a deal with the Dallas Mavericks is all but set in stone. Rondo gets his wish of getting out of Boston, the Mavericks get their wish of adding a superstar point guard, and the Celtics get their wish in adding young talent and gaining additional draft picks to rebuild upon. The Mavericks will send Brandan Wright, Jameer Nelson, Jae Crowder and an unannounced amount of draft picks to the Ce;tics in exchange for Rondo. This will undoubtedly put a huge damper on the Celtics season but may actually be quite beneficial in the long run. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be strange seeing Mr. Triple Double in a blue uniform.
