It is still hard for me to believe that TCU was knocked out of the top four after they dominated their opponent and was named the number three team in country just five days before. I believe that Alabama should be number one, Oregon at number two, TCU at number three and Florida State at number four. If anyone should have been eliminated, it should have been Florida State. They’ve been sneaking out wins against teams they should be dominating. The only reason I put them in the top four is because they didn’t lose a game, no matter how close they got. I’m dumbfounded that the College Football Selection Committee chose the top four teams based on so many different factors as opposed to looking at who was in the top four that week. No top four team deserved to be eliminated based on their performance in their last game and their initial position that week. The committee decided to place Ohio State at the number four spot, bump Florida state up to number three, and drop TCU all the way down to number six behind Baylor. Did I mention that TCU won by 52 points? Just slightly less than the point differential in the Ohio State vs. Wisconsin game. TCU could have easily won by more but they started taking a knee with six minutes left in the game out of courtesy for the other team. Also, if anyone should have been moved up to four, it should have been Baylor. They had a stronger schedule than Ohio State and was the only team to defeat TCU. Also, Baylor beat a top ten team in their final game. Ohio State has had a terrific season but I do not believe they should be in the top four.
This shows that no team is safe for the future. These decisions are going to be made more based on full year performance as opposed to a weekly performance review. If a team has an easier schedule they are already, in a way, at a disadvantage even though they may win most of their games. The selection is going to be unpredictable because their are so many different factors that are now going into this decision. Even if I don’t agree with this year’s selection, this process will make the playoffs that much more suspenseful. I also believe that that it should be an eight team playoff. This way all the qualified teams, regardless of top four, will be able to compete for the national title.
