After a trade that shocked the NFL fan base, the Seattle Seahawks’ speedy wide receiver, Percy Harvin, has been traded to the New York Jets. In return the Seahawks only got a conditional 2015 draft pick. Harvin was only in his second year of his six year, sixty-seven million dollar contract when the Seahawks traded him. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, they are still required to pay him 25 million in guaranteed money from his contract. Harvin, a former rookie of the year, was reportedly let go because of his behavior both on and off the field. He is well known for taking himself out of games and causing constant fights with his own teammates. His behavior must have been intolerable to everyone considering the fact that the Seahawks acquired him in exchange for a first, third, and seventh round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings in 2013.
The Seahawks needed a big play receiver and Harvin was able to fill that role. A few injuries slowed him down last year limiting him to the postseason. But, It is unquestionable that Harvin helped this team win the Superbowl. Now that he is healthy again, Harvin is returning to peak condition. The end around sweep to Harvin is one of the hardest plays to defend in the NFL due to his quickness and speed. Although he was a big help, his teammates sure were not happy with him along the way. Harvin and Seahawks QB Russell Wilson reportedly had their fair share of arguments in the locker room. He is also notorious for taking himself out of games whenever he has a disagreement with a coach or player. A player like that can be cancerous to the clubhouse.
Percy Harvin always finds a way to get his name in the paper or on ESPN. But that was back in Seattle. The media frenzy in Seattle is nothing compared to that of New York. In New York there is all sorts of trouble for Harvin to get into and so many reporters dying to get their hands on another story. Even though the Jets are not a team worth talking about right now due to their poor performance, I have a feeling Harvin is going to be bringing some attention to the team. I’m sure his attitude will not change despite the move and I am interested to see how long before the next Percy Harvin story comes to light.
