World Series Preview

The Kansas City Royals will make their first World Series appearance since 1985 when they played the San Francisco Giants.  Yes, The Royals, a team that hasn’t gone to the World Series in 29 years.  After a very solid regular season and a historic 8-0 perfect postseason, the Royals look to make a statement to the MLB that they mean business.  Unlike the Royals, the Giants are familiar to this scene as they won the title two years ago when they beat the Detroit Tigers in seven games.  Their experience could give them an edge.

It is eerie how these two team’s regular seasons were so similar.  The Royals finished out the regular season at an impressive 89-73 while the Giants finished at 88-74.  In overall runs scored, The Royals had 651 and the Giants had 655.  The batting average for the Giants was .255 compared to the Royal’s .263.  You get the point.  They’re both very good teams.  The Royals, however, swept the Giants 3-0, during inter-league play this summer.

This series is going to be a test of whose bullpen can produce game in and game out.  The Royal’s bullpen is lead by James shield and the Giant’s bullpen is lead by Tim Licecum and Madison Bumgarner.  With the tremendous batting ability of both teams, it is going to be up to the pitchers to keep the ball in play and wait for the other team to make a mistake.  I predict San Francisco in six games.
