Goodbye Jeter, Welcome Back A-Rod

The “farewell tour” is over for the beloved captain Derek Jeter.  As the face of Yankee’s baseball leaves, the face of PED scandals returns.  After a year long suspension due to a failed drug test in which Rodriguez failed for taking performance enhancing drugs, he is returning to Major League Baseball.  A-Rod’s contract will keep him as a Bronx Bomber until the 2018 season.  I should also mention the fact that he is being paid 21 million dollars in the 2015 season and 20 million in the 16′ and 17′ seasons.  All this money is for someone, who in recent years, has been sub par.  Rodriguez played just 44 games in 2013 and hit a mere .244 batting average, a slight drop off from his 2012 season in which he finished with a .272 BA.  Joe Girardi has recently come out and said that Rodriguez is not guaranteed his starting spot back and will have to prove to this club that he is still capable of performing at a starting level in practice and spring training.

A-Rods return will undoubtedly bring a plethora of media attention to this ball club.  However, dealing with attention is second nature to this team.  I mean they are the Yankees.  If A-Rod is in shape, healthy, and ready to play, his return will be a big aid to the struggling infield of the Yankees.  Though he may not have 57 home runs a year power, he can still pose a threat to opposing pitchers.  The Yankees need a leader now that Jeter is gone.  Can it be Alex Rodriguez?
